The arms are those of Pocock of Hart, co. Durham (Baronets extinct). The Seahorse supporters were granted by Royal Warrant 15 December 1821.
The same unusual headers of draped female busts flanked by floral sprays appear on another soup tureen by Cripps, 1748, sold Sotheby's, New York, 22 April 1998, lot 234.
