The arms of those of Molineux impaling Crisp for Charles Laval Molineux (b. circa 1700) of St. Kitts in the West Indies, son of Rev. Richard Molineux, rector of St. Peter’s, Montserrat. Charles married Margaret, daughter of Colonel Joseph Crisp of St. Kitts from whom she inherited in 1712 300 acres of plantation land in Capisterre, St. Kitts, £500 and 100,000 lbs of muscovado sugar (F. A. Crisp; Collections Relating to the Family of Crispe; 1882; Vol. 4, p.65). Their eldest son Crisp Molineux (1730-1792) moved to England in 1754 and bought Garboldisham Hall, Norfolk. His will specifies ‘I give to my grandson Crisp Molineux Montgomerie my large silver tankard that was my Grandfather Crisp's’ (National Archives, London, PROB 11/1232/158). It is likely that this refers to the present lot and that the refence to his grandfather was an error: the date of the tankard shows it was made after the death of his grandfather in 1712, and the contemporary marital arms are those his father.
