View full screen - View 1 of Lot 22. Petrus 1998 (12 BT).

Lot 1-75: Legendary bottles of Bordeaux and specific vintages such as 1982 and 1990 are the hallmarks of this collection with a singular producer standing apart, making obvious that Petrus reigns supreme in this offering. Most of these bottles were purchased in the United States from trusted retailers and prestigious auctions and were then imported into Mexico. The wines were stored in two private, purpose-built residential cellars located in Mexico, each impeccably maintained and equipped with a sophisticated alarm system to alert of any fluctuations in temperature or humidity. The bottles were inspected by Sotheby’s wine specialists, along with our expert wine consultant in rare Bordeaux.

Description

Petrus 1998

Pomerol

1 level just into neck, 5 labels slightly nicked,1 label with inventory sticker adhered, 5 US import labels, Mexico import stickers, 4 adhered to labels, 4 adhered to capsules

Beautiful, thick, rich, dense, Rubens-like colour. Amazing complexity on the nose - mega-dimensional. Vanillin, cinnamon, intoxicating oriental spices nose. With time, mocha creeps in. This has the absolute fascination of Petrus. Formidable body and fruit on the palate, with enormous depth of flavour, but still elegant. Incredible dark chocolate and black fruit taste. It just never goes away. For me, the greatest and one of the wines of my life. Serena Sutcliffe, MW

Provenance:

A Monumental Cellar | The London Chapter – Bordeaux Icons is a single-owner offering which showcases the best of the best of Bordeaux. We brought you the first chapter of this collection in New York in September of 2023 with an expansive offering of the icons of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne.

Most of these bottles were purchased in the United States from trusted retailers and prestigious auctions. Given the status of many bottles as imported, a good number of them feature various stickers, tags and strips, evidence of the great efforts taken in amassing a collection of this stature. The wines in this collection were stored in two private, purpose-built residential cellars located in Mexico, each impeccably maintained and equipped with a sophisticated alarm system to alert of any fluctuations in temperature or humidity.
