Louis de Schryver (1862–1942) was among the leading Parisian painters of the Belle Époque, known for his refined depictions of contemporary life and society. A precocious talent, he exhibited at the Salon at just thirteen and maintained a long career that bridged the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His work captured the elegance, fashion, and leisure of the bourgeois world he inhabited, marked by polished technique and a keen sensitivity to color and light.

The present lot, Woman with Pink Rose, bears its original Tedesco Frères gallery label and portrays a Parisian woman dressed in lace and pearls, holding a mirror and a pink rose against a deep red background. The painting reflects de Schryver’s interest in portraying the grace and self-possession of modern Parisian women and stands as a testament to his ability to merge technical precision with the quiet sophistication of Belle Époque culture.
