Henriëtte Ronner-Knip was born in Amsterdam. She came from a family of painters and studied with her father, Josephus Augustus Knip (1777-1847), mainly working on landscapes and animal paintings. She is best known for her paintings of pets, especially cats and dogs, as seen in the present example.
