Raque Ford (US, b. 1986) creates works that blur the line between painting and sculpture, emphasizing the surface while playing with densely layered elements of forms and text. She is an accomplished printmaker, producing editions that continue to explore the archetypical elements of her work: text, florals, shoeprints, and more. Ford is interested in imbuing narrative into abstracted works, which she accomplishes through excerpts of songs, conversations, and writings that float almost illegibly through her imagery. These elements combine to explore ways that identity is crafted from scraps of popular culture.
Recent solo presentations include the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Print Center, Philadelphia; Good Weather, Chicago; Greene Naftali, New York; 321 Gallery, Brooklyn; CAPITAL, San Francisco; and Shoot the Lobster, New York. Significant group shows include presentations at Albright Knox Gallery, Buffalo; MoMA PS1, New York; Morán Morán, Mexico City; and SculptureCenter, Queens. Ford’s work is held in the collections of the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
