Jansen was founded in 1880 by Jean-Henri Jansen, a native of the Netherlands. Stéphane Boudin, then Pierre Delbée from the 1930s onwards, as artistic director, created a distinctive style, mixing period pieces with furniture of refined lines. The company also produced a large number of pieces in painted sheet metal. Among its international clients were King Leopold III of Belgium, Coco Chanel, philanthropist Jayne Wrightsman and even Jackie Kennedy for the refurbishment of the White House in Washington D.C.
