The "canterbury" is a typically English piece of furniture that appeared at the end of the 18th century. The Archbishop of Canterbury is said to have been the first to commission objects of this shape, which gave it its name. Originally, this piece of furniture was used to store silverware in dining rooms, then vertical divisions were added to display music sheets.
