Description

Rectangular, formed as two compartments, each with hinged lid, the smaller also acting as support for the larger when open, fitted with inkwell and sander, engraved throughout with scrolling ornament incorporating courtly figures hunting bear, oxen and stags, other figures netting fish and capturing seals, inside of larger cover with the Wisdom of Solomon, inside of smaller, Samson drinking after smiting the Philistines, its exterior engraved with vacant armorial cartouche flanked by male and female child supporters, on four lion supports, inside of main compartment stamped ANO DOM 1614, underside of whole engraved 42 oz (or o&).
