The architectural firm of Graham, Anderson, Probst & White was founded in 1912 as Graham, Burnham & Co. They were of immense importance to Chicago's skyline and are now inextricably bound to Chicago's architectural legacy. They are known for the Wrigley Building, the Merchandise Mart, Field Music, Civic Opera House, Chicago Fed, and many more iconic structures. Ernest P. Graham was co-founder of Graham, Anderson, Probst & White. In his obituary in The New York Times, he was called "one of the great builders of Chicago."
Robert R. McCormick was a member of the prominent McCormick family of Chicago and a notable newspaper magnate. He owned the Chicago Tribune, one of the most widely read newspapers in Chicago at the time. A staunch Republican and isolationist, McCormick used his newspaper to oppose the New Deal and later opposed the US army joining World War II.
A fine record of “one of the most prolific commercial architectural firms in the history of American architecture” (ANB).
