IWC is renowned for crafting robust, purpose-driven tool watches like the Ingenieur, Pilot's Watch, and Aquatimer. However, it's notable that half of the brand's core lineup consists of dress watches, including the Da Vinci, Portofino, and today's focus, the Portugieser. The Portugieser’s origins trace back to a special request from two Portuguese gentlemen in the late 1930s, who asked IWC to create a large wristwatch with the precision of a pocket watch. At the time, IWC was primarily known for its accurate pocket watches, which featured robust, hand-wound movements capable of meeting strict chronometric standards. To meet this request, IWC encased one of its pocket watch movements in a generously sized wristwatch case, giving birth to what would become the Portugieser.
Introduced at SIHH 2015, the 5007 model brought an updated refined movement with two barrels, providing a 168-hour power reserve when fully wound, along with an updated Pellaton winding system. The design changes, though subtle, make a significant impact in person, with features such as a curved glass and ergonomically optimized lugs. As a former brand ambassador, Tom Brady is offering this exceptional piece from his personal collection with its full suite of accessories.
