The IWC Big Pilot’s Watch holds an iconic status in aviation timepieces. In the 1940s, IWC answered a call from the German Air Force to create a watch that was both highly accurate and reliable for aviators. This led to the creation of the Big Pilot’s Watch 52 T.S.C., which featured a massive 55mm case, a robust movement, and an antimagnetic escapement. It became an indispensable tool for German pilots during World War II, solidifying the Big Pilot’s Watch as a symbol of precision and reliability. Following its success, IWC expanded its production to supply watches to the British, U.S. Navy, and other Commonwealth nations, further cementing its reputation in the world of military aviation.

The reference IW3891-04 pays tribute to the US Navy’s Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor ‘SFTI’ program, more commonly known as TOPGUN—the elite flight school that inspired the iconic 1980s movie. Originally established as the Navy Fighter Weapons School in 1969, TOPGUN has since become a symbol of excellence in aerial combat. Limited to just 1,500 pieces, the IW3891-04 stands out among IWC pilot’s watches with its engraved caseback featuring the movie’s logo, and a seconds hand adorned with a miniature Navy jet. The dial features highly legible hour markers and the brand’s signature triangle at 12 o’clock. Its ceramic case and durable fabric strap are built to withstand the toughest conditions.

As an IWC ambassador, Tom Brady has been frequently photographed wearing this particular model. Most famously, he wore this watch during his last Super Bowl Champion Parade in 2021 following his historic victory with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
