This unusual and extraordinary jade carving belongs to a small group of pendants masterfully modelled in the shape of a dragon with a sinuous body grooved to resemble a twisted rope. See a closely related example of a dragon pendant in the Cleveland Museum of Art, illustrated in Handbook of the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH, 1991. p. 9. Another similar jade dragon pendant also with a twist-rope design is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, illustrated in Na Zhiliang, Yuqi cidian [Dictionary of Chinese Jade], Hong Kong, 1985, p. 47, fig. 0238.
