painted with gilt-edged hexagonal panels of chinoiserie figures at various pursuits, enriched in gilding, the lilac ground with flower garland and trellis borders, gilt rims, crowned interlaced LL marks, date letter Z for 1777 and painter's mark LG for Louis-Antoine Le Grand in iron-red, cup incised CS

Louis-Antoine Le Grand was active as a painter and gilder at Sèvres between 1776 and 1824, specializing in figures, chinoiserie decoration, birds, flowers and patterns. A pink-ground gobelet 'litron' and saucer, painted by Le Grand with similar chinoiserie scenes, was sold at Christie's, New York, 22 October 2020, lot 59.
