描述
[Apollo 17]
The Last Words Spoken on the Moon
Large color photograph, 20 x 16 inches. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Commander GENE CERNAN: "I'd like to just say what I believe / history will record — that America's challenge / of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow / And as we leave the Moon at Taurus Littrow, / we leave as we came and God willing / as we shall return, with peace and hope / for all mankind. / God speed the crew of Apollo XVII"
Apollo 17 was the sixth and, so far, final crewed lunar landing. The mission was also the longest, lasting in total 12 days and 14 hours, with 75 hours spent on the lunar surface. Cernan spoke the words inscribed before entering the Lunar Module for the last time on December 14, 1972, making him the last man on the Moon.
