Description
[Apollo 16]
"I'm Proud to Be an American I'll Tell You!"
Large color photograph, 20 x 16 inches.
SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Lunar Module Pilot CHARLIE DUKE: "'I'm proud to be an American / I'll tell you! / What a program, and what a place / And what an experience!'"
Apollo 16 Lunar Module Pilot Charlie Duke salutes the United States flag at the Descartes landing site during the mission's first EVA. Stone Mountain dominates the background of the lunar landscape, while LM Orion and the Far Ultraviolet Camera/Spectrograph (FUC/S) are visible just behind.
Duke completed three EVAs in the Descartes Highlands with Apollo 16 Commander John Young, making him the tenth person to walk on the Moon.
