When a sudden explosion during a routine procedure in an oxygen tank caused the contents of both of Apollo 13’s Command Service Module’s oxygen tanks to vent, the crew was forced to divert power and use the Lunar Module Aquarius as a “lifeboat” for much of the remaining trip. The mission previously destined for the lunar surface instead became a fight for survival to return to Earth. This stunning image of the Moon was taken from the window of Aquarius.
