Description
[Apollo 11]
Lunar Module "Eagle" at Tranquility Base
Large color photograph, 20 x 16 inches, SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Lunar Module Pilot BUZZ ALDRIN: "Unpacking Experiments From / Lunar Module "Eagle" / At Tranquility Base / Buzz Aldrin Apollo XI LMP"
Apollo 11’s major contribution to science came not from Armstrong’s famous first steps on the moon, but from the experiments conducted by Aldrin and Armstrong in the two and a half hours after. This photo depicts Aldrin unpacking the Early Apollo Scientific Experiments Package (AESEP), which included a variety of experiments including tools to measure the precises distance between Earth and the Moon, record seismic activity, and collect dust and soil samples.
