Until sold with Glemham Hall in 1923 to Captain John Murray Cobbold (1897–1944) and his wife Lady Blanche (1897-1988);

North carried out extensive alterations at Glemham between 1712-1730. It is possible that these chairs were acquired shortly after that along with other good furniture for the house. It is thought a set of carved walnut seat furniture, with fine Soho tapestry covers, and carved cabriole legs was acquired at that time by him (for the settee see, Victoria and Albert Museum, London, accession number W.29-1947). The present chairs may have been acquired too then.
