This bangle belonged to Archduchess Auguste Ferdinande of Austria-Tuscany, Princess of Bavaria (1825-1864). She was the daughter of Leopold II, Grand Duke of Tuscany (1797-1859) and Princess Maria Anna of Saxony (1799-1832). In 1844, she married Prince Luitpold of Bavaria (1821-1912). Prince Luitpold acted as Prince Regent between 1886 and 1912 on behalf of his mentally incapacitated nephews Kings Ludwig II and Otto of Bavaria. Prince Luitpold’s eldest son became the last Bavarian King Ludwig III who ruled from 1913 to 1918. This bangle was inherited by Ludwig III’s wife Archduchess Maria Theresa of Austria-Este, Queen of Bavaria (1849-1919). She in turn left it to her seventh daughter Princess Helmtrud of Bavaria (1886-1977).
