The inscription may be translated as "The Prime Minister of the State of Qin, Bo Sang (named Fu Ji), who administered policies and instructed in the west, commissioned the creation of this golden-yellow dagger to stabilize and pacify the eastern lords. Warriors clad in armor on both sides were equipped with this halberd and arrayed in formation." Fu Ji, who is referenced as Bo Sang, likely served as the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Qin during the reign of King Xiangong of Qin (725 BC -704 BC ) .
