Though the miniscule 'signature', lower left, is not autograph, this delicate and moving portrait of a pensive young woman is, as Thierry Beherman has noted (see Literature), a fine example of Schalcken's rare portrait drawings on vellum, and most probably an early work, dating from circa 1670.
