A study for one of six paintings on slate by Lilio depicting the life of St. Francis of Paola in the Santuario di San Francesco di Paola, the birthplace of the Saint.1A second preparatory drawing for the aforementioned series of paintings, executed in the same combination of media and of almost identical dimensions, was sold at Sotheby's Florence in 1984.2
