Biswanath L. Mukerji

Born in Varanasi in 1921, Biswanath Mukerji left home at the age of 17 to pursue his artistic ambitions. He studied at the Lucknow School of Art under Bengal School artist Asit Kumar Haldar. Mukerji is best known for his romantic and exquisitely rendered landscapes. The current lot is a quintessential example of such works, revealing an idyllic mountainscape. The warm, sunlit peaks and lush foliage beautifully contrast the cool haze of hills which lays between them, deftly showcasing the mastery of Mukerji's craft.
