Thence by descent

The Wrightman family moved from India to Bahrain in 1954 and were close friends of the Mohamedi family. Nasreen resided in Bahrain between 1957 and 1958 due to her father’s business in the region, having established Ashraf's, the famed photography and electronic retailer. In 1969, the Wrightmans were invited by Nasreen’s brother, Anwar, to an exhibition of the artist’s work at the British Council. They wanted to support the artist, who at this point was lesser known, and were particularly struck by the present work which they acquired that day. The Wrightmans moved to the UK in 1980 and the painting has remained in the family collection for over 50 years, now appearing at auction for the first time.

Bahrain, British Council, Solo exhibition, 7 - 11 June 1969
