the rim engraved with strapwork between three roundels enclosing profile heads of Emperors and an Empress, the gilt-lined nut enclosed by broad bands of bosses linked by strapwork pierced by arrows, the vertical straps cast with bosses and fruit and topped by winged putto heads, similar heads at the base of the straps facing front, left and right, bracketed vase-shaped stem cast with putto heads and bosses, the base rim chased with strapwork on matted ground matched on the cover, the finial formed as a mustachioed warrior holding a spear standing on a raised platform surrounded by spreading leaves, the interior of the cover with a disc inscribed PETRUS STEIGER V.D.P.S. L.S.V.D. surrounding the date 1.6.36, maker’s mark only on foot rim
