the gourd-shaped body embossed with spiraled lobes, openwork white silver stem, the base with two bands of lobes, similar cover with finial in the form of a man holding an emblem and standing on winged orb, the figure possibly representing a guild, borders of cut and curled white sheet silver, marked with maker’s mark and city mark on rim of body and foot, the matching cover maker’s mark HP conjoined (Rosenberg 3 no 1121, Bamberg, mid 17th century)

Gabriel Schmidt was master in 1615 and died in 1642; cups by him are in the Kremlin, see Helmut Seling, Die Augsburger Gold-und Silberschmiede 1529-1868, p.218, no 1296
