Anonymous sale, Paris, Christie's, 14 September 2016,
With Paolo Antonacci, Rome;
From whom acquired, 2018.
Painted with an impressionistic touch, the present work is likely to be a rooftop view of the artist's home town, Copenhagen, seen from the window of his studio. Tuxen was a member of the so-called Skagen group of painters, a colony of Scandinavian artists who broke away from the rigid traditions of the Royal Danish and Swedish academies to embrace the evolving European trends of Realism and Impressionism. Characterized by the harmonious use of color and impasto handling of paint, the present painting conveys the freshness and modernity of Tuxen’s artistic vocabulary.
