The final print issued for Utagawa Hiroshige's (1797-1858) series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo. The print is dated to the fourth month of 1859, seven months after Hiroshige's death. Utagawa Hiroshige II was Hiroshige's son-in-law and successor. The paulownia fields of Akasaka are depicted drenched in heavy night rain. Silhouettes of figures under parasols are visible in the distance. The numerous instances of bokashi gradation evoke the damp atmosphere and spray of rain.
