Introduced in 1955, the GMT-Master was initially developed to assist transcontinental airplane pilots to track two time zones. It eventually became a timeless classic for its versatility and robust appearance. The major feature was the second time zone (GMT) with a dedicated hand giving time on the rotatable red & blue bezel, hence the “Pepsi” nickname, that had a 24-hour display. The present GMT-Master II Reference 126710BLRO, was revealed at Baselword in 2018, and it very quickly became incredibly sought after.
Various upgrades and metal variations have been released over the years, however, this present lot features a red and blue Cerachrom bezel and is fitted with the iconic Jubilee bracelet. Additionally, it utilizes the automatic caliber 3285, boasting an increased power reserve of 70 hours and further-improved magnetic and shock resistance. The dial bears a new Coronet at 6 o'clock, between 'SWISS' and 'MADE', indicating the newer generation of Rolex movements.
Offered with its full suite of accessories, this watch is one of the most sought-after timepieces on today's market as it stands as a contemporary homage to the original GMT-Master created for the Pan Am crews.
