Four digit Rolex Daytonas are a versatile vintage staple, and are certainly some of the most iconic chronographs ever produced. Reference 6265 represents the last of the manually wound Daytonas in steel, and is the most robust of the series. It featured several technical upgrades over its predecessor references, most noticeable of which is the change to screw-down chronograph pushers and a thicker oyster case, thus allowing the reference 6265/63 to feature the coveted ‘Oyster Cosmograph’ text on the dial.
These watches also featured the upgraded Valjoux calibre 727, which had an improved beat rate over the 722, as well as being superlative chronometer capable, despite only examples in gold being submitted for testing.
The present watch features the highly desirable ‘Big Red’ dial, as can be seen in the size and eyecatching colour of the text above the 6 o’clock sub-dial. Offered in attractive condition and even with the factory sticker on the caseback, this is an excellent opportunity for any collector to add a true classic to their collection.
