In 1978 Rolex introduced the reference 16660 as a successor to the previous reference 1665. The new model known as the "Triple Six" showcased several enhancements. It incorporated a sapphire crystal, which provided increased durability, and also featured a quick set date function. Thanks to the improved crystal, the "Triple Six" boasted an enhanced water resistance rating of 4,000 feet, a significant improvement over the 2,000 feet rating of its predecessor. The present example exhibits charming orange like colour on its dial and hands.
