In 2011, Patek Philippe introduced the reference 5270 during the Basel fair. This model replaced the previous reference 5970 and represented a significant milestone for the Swiss brand, marking their first fully in house manufactured perpetual chronograph movement. Its dial configuration was also revised, moving the leap year indicator from a subdial to a position between 4 and 6 o'clock, mirroring the day and night indicator.

This particular example features a platinum case and a salmon dial, which became highly sought after by collectors for its combination of vintage elegance and excellent legibility. A tachymeter scale can also be found at the exterior ring of the dial, reminiscent of the original reference 1518.
