One of the earliest Rolex sports watches produced in series, the reference 6202 was introduced to the market in 1953. It changed the landscape of sports watches due to the remarkable innovation, the rotating bezel, calibrated to 60 minutes, allowing for better time measurement. Though the 6202 is not the first Rolex wristwatch to be fitted with the rotating bezel, it is the first reference to be widely distributed.
The present example is well preserved and is stamped on the inside of the case back for the 4th quarter of 1953. The dial also has an extremely high reading on the Geiger counter and reacts very well under UV.
