Launched in 2002, the Celestial reference 5102 is one of the most significant horological complications ever created. For the first time, a dynamic representation of the Northern Hemisphere's celestial chart is displayed on the wrist.
The celestial chart rotates counterclockwise, illustrating the movement of stars in relation to the meridian passage of Sirius. In tandem, both the meridian passage and moon phases are visible. Patek Philippe conducted research on 25 trillion (25,000,000,000,000) ratio combinations to achieve the highest accuracy for all displays of the reference 5102, highlighting the immense challenges faced by the brand's watchmakers in producing this intricate model.
The reference 5102 was the final configuration of this reference. Initially released in white gold and followed by yellow gold, it made its debut at Basel in 2009 in a stunning combination of platinum and 18k pink gold. The case design is exceptional, showcasing a striking balance of color and texture. The reference 5102 was discontinued in 2012, making way for the reference 6102, which features a redesigned case and incorporates a date complication into the celestial chapter ring.
