The Hermès Arceau was designed in 1978. When first released, it featured italic hour markers that imitate the horse round in a riding arena, paying tribute to Hermès' equestrian origins. The present watch features a white gold case set with diamond and sapphire-set. Not only do the sapphire spots glitter around the moon phases, they also spread out towards the bezel and lug in a scattered starry pattern. Within this exhibition of haute joaillerie is a white mother-of-pearl sub-dial which functions as a subsidiary date display. The combination of jewel patterns and dial design create a celestial theme representing this Arceau's ability to tell the moon phase cycle, with a poetic illustration of the moon and the stars for the indicator.
