It is extremely rare to find a pair of Imperial cloisonné enamel incense burners modelled with elephant trunk handles and legs, and with Qianlong reign marks. An individual incense burner of the period of similar form, but unmarked, was sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 8th October 2007, lot 1308.
See another related incense burner with similar elephant head handles and feet and a recumbent elephant on the cover supporting a vase, included in the exhibition Tributes from Guangdong to the Qing Court, Art Gallery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, 1987, cat. no. 34.
