Heavily potted, the present jar is decorated with the flowers of the four seasons in which lotus, peony, chrysanthemum, and camellia blooms are deftly rendered in a cartouche respectively. See a closely related jar, similarly depicting flowers of the four seasons attributed to the 14th to 15th century, from the collection of Mr. David P. L. Chan, illustrated in Chinese Celadons and Other Related Wares in Southeast Asia, Southeast Asian Ceramics Society, Singapore, 1979, cat. no. 212.
