Description
the base with a six-character mark in underglaze blue within a double circle
Diameter 13⅝ in., 34. 5 cm
Painted in broad brushstrokes, the present dish depicts a lovely lotus pond scene where a bird is perched on a lotus branch amongst lotus flowers, buds, leaves and tall grass sprays. Produced during the early Kangxi period, the dish is remarkable for its large size and dynamic painting. Dishes bearing a similar mark are rare and no other dish similarly decorated appears to be recorded.
