The present dish is rare on account of its four-character mark that translates to 'Made in the Ming dynasty,' which are usually seen on porcelains from the Zhengde to Chongzhen period. Compare another dish of this type, bearing the same mark, sold in our London rooms, 6th/7th June 1967, lot 144. A similar dish with a Wanli mark is included in Ming Blue and White Porcelain. The Drs. A.M. Sengers Collection, Marchant, London, 2001, cat. no. 16.
