Description
Hermitage, La Chapelle 1972
Paul Jaboulet Aîné
u. 1x1.5cm, 1x2.5cm, 1x3cm, 1x4cm, 2x5cm, from different importers, labels bin-soiled and 2 slightly scuffed, corroded capsules, slightly sunken corks with signs of old seepage
There are massive "legs" on the three vintages 1972, 1971 and 1970. The wine falls slowly down the glass leaving a trail like a snail, a sure sign of glycerol and "fat". A bouquet of glorious chocolate and iron. . Smoky blackcurrants. Tremendous, almost sweet scent. Smells like a great, much older wine from the Côte de Nuits. Vanilla pods and cinnamon sticks. Russian leather. Huge tannin and acidity. Great vegetal richness with a chocolate and coffee aftertaste and smoky fruit. A real pleasure to drink now and a wine that is very "together". Serena Sutcliffe, MW
