The origin of the IWC Portuguese dates back to the end of the 1930s when two Portuguese businessmen - Rodrigues and Teixeira - operating in the watch industry visited the IWC factory proposing the development of a large stainless steel wristwatch housing a movement that could match the precision of a marine chronometer, with perfect readability and the highest possible precision. This quest led to the introduction of the legendary reference 325 in 1939.
in 1995, IWC introduced the Portuguese split-second chronograph under the reference 3712. Three years later, based on a similar aesthetic, they launched a simplified version with a traditional chronograph: the reference 3714.
The model remained as part of the offering for over twenty year, until 2020, when it was finally replaced by the Reference 3716 equipped with the newly developed caliber.
Throughout its lifetime, the 3714 was offered in many variations of metals and dial colours. Yet, the very DNA has remained instantly recognisable.
This pink gold example fitted with a grey dial is a most attractive livery for what is unanimously considered as one of the best and the most successful chronographs of the last thirty years.
