The Rolex Daytona 116509 was the first white gold Daytona with matching bracelet. It was introduced in 2004 and was powered by the calibre 4130. This caliber is a very important movement for Rolex as it is the brand's first in-house chronograph movement.

While it could look like the stainless-steel version from distance, the connoisseur will immediately identify it as white gold thanks to its different bezel.

The model was available with a large variety of dials. Stone dials are by far the most sought-after ones, such as on this lot, fitted with rosolite dial, which is red grossular garnet.

Very few pieces were made, due to the complex manufacturing process and delicate nature of these dials. Moreover, each dial is unique because of the distinctive pattern of the stone utilized.

The 116509 was eventually discontinued in 2023, further increasing the desirability of the present lot.
