In 1945, on the occasion of its 40th birthday, Rolex presented a model that is still today one of the most famous and popular watches in the world, a piece that is considered as the perfection in its category, the watch many collectors would choose if they had to have only one watch: the Datejust.
This iconic model has been through different evolution, each marked by the change of the reference.
The 16220 was introduced in 1989 and was available until the mid-2000's. It was the evolution of the 16030.
The reference is defined by its unusual engine-turned bezel, called rudenté in French, that was made in stainless steel.
It was the last Datejust model to be equipped with that type of bezel.
The watch was made in 904L stainless steel, nowadays called Oystersteel, of the less resistant 316L.
The 16220 is a wonderful model for collectors who want to enjoy a vintage look Datejust with the reliability of a modern one.
This example has seen its Tapisserie dial turning into tropical, giving it an incredibly attractive personality.
It is further accompanied by its Guarantee and presentation case.
