Hublot has had a very close relationship with Viviane Senna, Ayrton's sister, as well as with the Instituto Ayrton Senna. To support the cause of the Institute as well as to celebrate the great champion, Hublot has produced some special pieces, respectively in 2007, 2009 and 2011.
The present lot is the 2009 model called Foudroyante as the watch has a split-second chronograph movement with an increased accuracy of 1/8th of a second.
Interestingly, the watch was first unveiled just before Christmas in Tokyo during a photographs exhibition by Norio Koike and dedicated to his friend Ayrton Senna.
The watch is decorated with the Brazilian colours, with the yellow and green split-seconds hand, yellow hour and minute indexes, the green signature of Senna and the Brezilian flag to the band of the case at 9 o'clock, while the logo of the Instituto is present on the sapphire display back above Senna's name.
This highly technical watch, paying tribute to one of the greatest champions and supporting a very honourable cause was produced as a limited edition of 500 pieces.
