The present watch was gifted to Robert Prowse along with a Tank Louis (lot 11) to his brother David Prowse - who played Darth Vader in the original 1970's Star Wars Trilogy - by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia in the late 1970s. It is unsurprising that these watches were chosen as gifts as they were larger than the standard Cartier models, since both men were well over 6ft, with David a staggering 6ft 6 in (198cm).
The Vendôme Automatique, steps away from the classic Cartier layouts of smaller cases and manual winding movements. This watch offers a good opportunity to acquire an interesting and unique design orientated Cartier with a more contemporary case size. In addition is has several layers of strong provenance.
