Louis Cottier, the renowned independent Swiss watchmaker of the 1930s and 1940s, introduced worldtime watches. Collaborating closely with several Swiss manufacturers, including Rolex and Vacheron Constantin, Cottier's innovative designs displayed the time across all 24 time zones simultaneously. However, his most notable partnership was with Patek Philippe, where he made significant contributions. In 1953, the reference 2523 marked a milestone as the first worldtime watch to feature two crowns, a distinctive feature that made it highly sought after by collectors.
In 2000, Patek Philippe reintroduced the worldtime complication with the reference 5110. This model replaced the second crown with a pusher while retaining many iconic elements of the earlier 2523 model. Notably, the dial still featured a ring with 24 cities representing each time zone, with the city corresponding to the owner's location positioned at 12 o'clock. The hour and minute hands indicated the time in the selected city, while the remaining cities aligned with a rotating 24-hour ring. With a simple press of the pusher at 10 o'clock, users could easily adjust the time zone, advancing the hour hand and the city and 24-hour discs accordingly.
The present lot is offered in good condition and comes with its Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, product literature, leather bifold and presentation case with outer packaging.
