When the Rolex Explorer II received an update in 2011, there were some key advancements made to the case, dial, and movement. The 216570, which replaced the Reference 16570 after its 22 year production run, enlarged the case to 42 mm in diameter. The dual time hand indicating a second time zone was changed from red to orange, and housed a 3187 caliber automatic movement. The lume on the dial for the 216570 also was updated to use Chromalight material that illuminates a blue glow.
The reference was in production for 10 years before it was replaced with the 226570, which is still in the Rolex lineup to this day.
