This Tank Jumbo has a most unusual stepped case, making it a rarity in the variation of the most famous design of the Maison.

The oversized rectangular case is decorated by a pointed sapphire-set cabochon and has a snap-on back engraved in French.

As such, it is the Paris version of the stepped Tank Jumbo.

Indeed, the model was introduced at a time when Paris, London and New York were not yet re-united and each location had some particularities.

The New York version had a back secured by four screws while the Paris and London edition had a snap-on back.

The London edition however had a smaller crown, dial and the engraved text in English.

Most of the pieces that have appeared in the recent years were retailed through Cartier New York, making this Paris piece particularly desirable.

One will also immediately notice the dark brown dial, which is another important and very rare feature of this timepiece.

Finally its original angular buckle perfectly complements the vintage style of the present lot.
