The Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar reference 5548BA took the watchmaking industry by surprise upon its release in 1978. At times when quartz was threatening to change the industry forever, Audemars Piguet carried on with what they do best: extraordinary mechanical watches. This extra-slim timepiece embarks the caliber 2120QP, a sophisticated Jaeger-Lecoultre 920-based mechanical tour-de-force which was also used in the Royal Oak 5402 models and Patek Philippe Nautilus 3700.
While the piece was originally sold at Türler, the owner decided to add special bracelet from Wempe to it, linking this piece to two of the most prominent retailers.
The bracelet gives a unique allure to the watch, with the rarely seen combination of gold and leather, for a most striking effect.
The historical importance of this reference, its timeless aesthetic with the distinctive four subsidiary dials layout, the elegant case design and diameter would make this well-documented piece a significant addition to any collection.
